The Robert Klein Gallery, in association with Azita Bina-Seibel, is pleased to announce Rana Javadi: Never Ending Chaos, the first in a series of exhibitions of contemporary Iranian artists. The exhibition, on display at Ars Libri will present the complete suite of 14 prints from Iranian photographer Rana Javadi's 2013 series Never Ending Chaos.
Javadi lives and works in Tehran, where she has been director of the Cultural Research Bureau since 1989. She was also a founding member and director of Akskhaneh Shahr, Iran's first museum of photography. In 2009 she co-curated "165 years of Iranian Photography" at the Musée du Quai Branly and "Iran 1979-2009: Between Hope and Chaos: 30 years of Iranian Documentary Photography" at La Monnaie de Paris. Her work has been shown at Paris Photo since 2010.
Digital images printed on linen and subsequently stretched onto a frame, Javadi's prints are a conscious blend of old and new. Seen sequentially, the suite of images move back and forth on a sliding scale of intensity, order, and density. Recurring images of bombs -- inserted into the scenes like clip art -- are at once alien and intimidating, poorly matched to the surrounding images but dangerous, nonetheless. Javadi's earlier work, including the series When You Were Dying and Once Upon a Time, also employ elements of collage and mismatched pieces.
