Rafsanjani's son to Iranian Judiciary: Form a fair and public tribunal if you want me to return
Mehdi Hashemi is son of Iran's once most powerful man, Hashemi Rafsanjani (in picture) and lives abroad, but has been subpoenaed by Iran's hardliner Judiciary allegedly for misappropriation of funds. Iranian News Sources now report that Mehdi Hashemi calls the charges a witch hunt targeting his father, but he has indicated he will only return to Iran if a fair, non political and public tribunal is formed to investigate allegations against him and his family.
Iran's once most powerful man, Hashemi Rafsanjani, has been at odds with the leader Ali Khamenei, over a variety of issues, particularly leader's support for hardliner and protectionist government of Ahmadinejad. Because of his pro-capitalism and reformist stance, supporters of leader and Ahmadinejad have increasingly harassed Rafsanjani and his family and brought charges against them in the conservative pro-leader Judiciary, but no trials or convictions have resulted so far.
