AP count from Saudi hajj disaster shows over 1,250 killed
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — An Associated Press count shows that at least 1,254 pilgrims were killed in a crush and stampede during the hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia. The AP's count of the dead on Thursday includes 17 countries that have offered formal statements through hajj commissions or in state media broadcasts, saying specifically the deceased were killed Sept. 24 outside the holy city of Mecca.
