What is "Persian Pickles"?
American traditionalists, especially quiltmakers, used a familiar pattern they called "Persian Pickles." The modern name for this pattern is Paisley. This is a droplet-shaped vegetable motif of Persian and Indian origin, similar to half of the Yin yang symbol.
There is also a well known novel "The Persian Pickle Club" by Sandra Dallas, about a group of local ladies from Kansas dedicated to supporting each other during the 1930's economic depression, by meeting regularly and putting their quilting skills to good use at the Persian Pickle Club.
