The photographer Mansour Sheikhan was born in 1952 in Abadan in Iran. He studied film documentation in Iran and did documentary films. In1980 he immigrated to Sweden. As a Swedish citizen, he studied filmesthetik at the Swedish Film Institute and did documentary films. In 2004 he emigrated from Sweden to Germany where he lives till this day.
In 1976 Mansour Sheikhan on the occasion of a film trip to the historical city of Bam succeeded in shooting more than 90 photographs of the historical township. The photographs which attained a unique meaning from the 26th December, 2003: On this day an earthquake of the strength 6.5 destroyed about 85% of the city of Bam. More than 26,000 people fell victim to the quake which also destroyed or damaged numerous Iranian cultural treasures.
In 2004, Bam and its man-made landscape was taken up at the same time in the world heritage list of the UNESCO and in their red list. With it the reconstruction was decided. After that Bam again should be the biggest clay brick construction of the world. Well-chosen photographs are to be seen from the 26th May, 2008 in the city library of Upper House in the Bert Brecht's house.
