CFS: Free Screening of Iranian Pic
CHILDREN OF HEAVEN is a jewel of a film, told from the point of view of two kids in a poor but tight-knit Iranian family: A boy loses his sisters shoes on the way home from getting them repaired. In order to escape their fathers wrath, the siblings cook up a scheme to share a single pair of sneakers. Thankfully writer/director Majid Majidi doesnt drive home his points with a sledgehammer. In fact, Majidi avoids sentimentality by injecting the film with a strong dose of realism. The first Iranian feature to be nominated for a Best Foreign Language Film Oscar, CHILDREN OF HEAVEN is the upcoming feature in the ongoing Cultural Film & Lecture Series. It will be screened four times in the Connelly Center Cinema: Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7 pm; Sunday, Feb. 24 at 3:30 & 7 pm; and Monday, Jan. Feb 25 at 7 pm, in Farsi with English subtitles. Admission is FREE for students with ID and $5.00 for all others. The Monday screening only will feature Nasser Chour, from the schools Communication Department, who will provide an intro and lead a discussion afterward
